Abstract: The removal of mercaptan from catalytic cracking gasoline have been studied using caustic extraction and catalytic oxidation methods, respectively,The fate of mercaptan removal by single-stage caustic extraction was found to be 70-81%, whereas that by catalytic oxidation was 82.2-92.2%. It was also found that temperature shows no obvious effect on both processes but concentration of the caustic and the ratio between solvent and gasoline have great effect on the extraction process, and so does the residence time on the catalytic oxidation process.
