Optimization of preparation conditions for activated carbons from textile dyeing sludge and sawdust using response surface methodology based on CCD

  • Textile dyeing sludge and sawdust were used to produce activated carbon with NaOH activation method.The effects of activation temperature,heating rate and NaOH/precursor ratio on the influence of iodine number were investigated.Based on the central composite design (CCD),quadratic model was developed to correlate the influential factors to the iodine number.From the analysis of variance,the most influential factor on iodine number were sorted the results followed by activation temperature,NaOH/precursor ratio and heating rate.The optimum conditions were as follows:temperature of 739℃,heating rate of 6.59℃/min and NaOH/precursor ratio of 2.51 g,which resulted in 1 518.89 mg/g of iodine number,and with a BET surface of 1 617.70 m2/g.
