Abstract: A strain of Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans(A.f.a) which was from acid mine drainage of Yunfu mine in Guangdong, was obtained by enrichment cultivation using 9K medium, on a rotary shaker at 160 r/min and a constant temperature of 29℃. The effects of nutrients such as NH+4-N, PO3-4-P, Mg2+, Ca2+ and Cu2+ on ferrous biooxidation by the strain A.f.a were studied with batch experiments. The results show that the ferrous biooxidation rate is tended to increase first and then decrease with increasing NH+4-N, PO3-4-P, Ca2+ or Cu2+ concentration. Their optimum concentrations are 84.8, 35.6, 2.4 and 254.5 mg/L, respectively. With increasing Mg2+ concentration, the ferrous biooxidation rate increases nearly to stability, and the limiting concentration is 88.8 mg/L. The results can be used to improve ferrous biooxidation by controlling the conditions of nutrients.
